The Leadership Excellence for Women Awards is Back!

The Leadership Excellence for Women Awards (LEWA) is an award program dedicated to recognizing professional excellence in the GCC Energy industry. LEWA celebrates professionals who demonstrate innovation, leadership and talent, in both academic and business sectors of the industry. There are seven award categories, dedicated to academicians, engineers and technical experts. The awards are judged by industry experts chosen from amongst partners and committee members.

AWARDS CATEGORIES

Academic Achievement

A young woman in University who demonstrates academic excellence and leadership, and is majoring in Science and Engineering in the Energy industry.

Criteria

  • Studying towards a Science or Engineering Degree related to the energy industry
  • Leadership or involvement in an organization
  • GPA 3.5 out of 4.0 or equivalent on 5.0 scale
  • Bachelor/Undergraduate Degree or Graduate Degree
  • GCC University
  • Will graduate in 2 years or less
  • Letter of recommendation from a professional reference

Academic of Distinction

A female academic professional with 10 or more years of experience in Science and/or Engineering department, in the Energy industry who is known to actively promote the field, as well as engage in research and lectures, including the development of young women in this areas.

Criteria

  • Studying towards a Science or Engineering Degree related to the energy industry
  • Leadership or involvement in an organization
  • GPA 3.5 out of 4.0 or equivalent on 5.0 scale
  • Bachelor/Undergraduate Degree or Graduate Degree\
  • GCC University
  • Will graduate in 2 years or less
  • Letter of recommendation from a professional reference

Rising Star

A young professional woman with 3-5 years of experience in Science & Engineering in the Energy industry with a degree in that field as well.

Criteria

  • Works in Science & Engineering Industry
  • Degree in Science & Engineering
  • High performer- provide examples/paperwork to support this for the last 3 years
  • Recommendation from Supervisor
  • Special achievement (i.e. project adding value, saved money/time, improved performance)
  • 3-5 years of experience

Leading with Excellence

A professional woman with 5-15 years of experience in Science & Engineering who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate leadership skills.

Criteria

  • Degree in Science & Engineering
  • Impact on a Corporate Level (example – project outside of title leading to impact on entire company)
  • Leading corporate project
  • 5-15 years of experience
  • Communication Excellence through publications, speaking at events, etc.
  • Demonstrate 6 of the 8 skills of a leader, and provide support of this demonstration through references (Creativity, Courage, Empowerment, Accountability, Collaboration, Communication, Decision Making, Inspiration)

Woman of Achievement

A professional woman, with 15 years or more of experience in Science & Engineering in the Energy industry, who has attained a high rank and utilized her position.

Criteria

  • 15+ years of experience
  • Science & Engineering background
  • Has/had a high position (key position holder) who had a high impact on the company. Ideally defined as CEO or 1-2 levels from the CEO
  • Increased female hiring in organization – proven with support
  • Support advancement of women in the organization
  • Publications
  • Technical speaking experience
  • Recommendations (1 each) to reflect impact on the organization and impact on society
  • Awards
  • Demonstrate at least 4 of the 6 skills of leadership through a recommendation 

    (Visionary, Inspiring, Communication, Left an imprint/impact, Empowerment, Courage)

Corporate Champion Recognition

A professional male with 10+ years of experience who has gone above and beyond to develop and support women as professionals and potential leaders. He has demonstrated his strong support for women through a proven track record of support and encouraging change in his organization to more fully engage and integrate women.

Criteria

  • Male Champion
  • Develop & Support female talent and leaders
  • Support leading to a female shining and achieving. Recommendations from females they’ve supported required.
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Strong Advocate for Women – through conferences, mentoring, etc.
  • Focus Internally and externally, encouraging culture change in the community as well
  • Proven track record (examples include explicit statements in support of women, set up a women’s support network, instilled a gender friendly environment within the company structure

Corporate Excellence Recognition

An organization that has excelled at initiatives to encourage, advance, hire, and retain women through inclusive hiring and development practices.

Criteria

  • Initiatives to encourage/advance/retain and hire women
  • Number of female promotions (use a range) and include evidence
  • Inclusive hiring and development practices
  • Sponsor events for women (local/global/region)
  • Example of women in your organization who have been recognized or received awards
  • Innovation in Diversity & Inclusion program
